Abbe Museum -- Showcasing local, Native American culture, history & legacy. Two locations: one in Bar Harbor, the other in the National Park, at Sieur de Monts Spring. Founded in 1926, by Dr. Robert Abbe (below).
Abbe, Dr. Robert -- American surgeon & pioneer radiolist (1851 -- 1928) from New York who was a summer resident of Bar Harbor. He founded the Abbe Museum, in 1928, with is collection of locally sourced Native American artifacts as the basis. He was supported in this effort by two influential friends, John D. Rockefeller, Jr. & George B. Dorr.
Abenaki -- One of the indigenous tribes that lived in these lands for thousands of years.
Acadia (the name) --
Acadia -- In the context of the 'National Park', 'Acadia' refers to the huge maritime colony, in northeastern America, established c. 1604 by France. Today's Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and the Gaspé region of Quebec, as well as much of northern Maine (NE of the Kennebec River), occupy what once the area spanned by this colony -- until it was split up following British conquest in 1713.
